Meet the Wildflowers
Welcome to the choir!
We’ve built The Wildflower Community Choir as a safe space to be who you want to be, to support each other, to nurture each other, and to look after each other.
Singing is so important for your mental health and wellbeing – so much so that sometimes the Wildflowers arrive at rehearsal with no energy, having had a rough day, yet leave with a smile on their face, full of energy, and looking forward to our next rehearsal.
The Choir is run by Musical Director Emma (on the left in the photo). She grew up in a very musical family, going back 3 generations with the Salvation Army Church. Emma has sang from around aged 7 and has being singing for over 35 years. She plays the piano and the flute and has sung in several choirs. Emma also studied music at Secondary School and at Sixth Form and is loving returning to her musical roots after having a few years off.
The choir was born in January 2023 when Emma decided that she wanted to use the Wildflower Rooms (her business) for some enjoyment too and decided to launch a community choir that was going to meet every fortnight and sing for enjoyment. After the first test rehearsal she was asked for it to be put on every week and so the choir was born.
Since then the choir has progressed much more quickly than Emma believed they could or would. Its like an addiction, the Wildflowers just keep wanting more! They have progressed from singing very simple songs to now singing more complex songs in 3 part harmonies.
Emma has support from her Deputy Musical Director, Carolyn (on the right in the photo). She started singing at the age of 10 in a choir. At the age of 15 she had the opportunity to sing in a concert version of Joseph which sparked her passion for Musical Theatre. Over the past 30 years she has performed in various musicals in the local area.
Emma and Carolyn have a wealth of knowledge and experience that they bring to The Wildflowers, however their main focus will always be about how music and wellbeing are so important for all of us.
